Semifinal Wins Send No. 1 St. Joseph’s-Long Island, No. 3 Manhattanville to Title Match

| Top-seeded St. Joseph’s University-Long Island and No. 3 Manhattanville University advanced to the Skyline Conference Men’s Volleyball Championship Final following semifinal victories on Wednesday evening.

No. 1 St. Joseph’s University-Long Island def. No. 4 St. Joseph’s University-Brooklyn, 3-0

St. Joseph’s-Long Island (20-9) controlled the match from the outset, hitting .201 as a team while limiting Brooklyn to a .075 hitting percentage in a straight-sets victory.

Co-Player of the Year AJ Esposito led the Golden Eagles with 12 kills on .458 hitting, while Chris Saricola added 10 kills and 24 digs. Shaun Mischler contributed nine kills, and setter Dominic Ruggiero orchestrated the offense with 38 assists.
After a competitive second set that featured multiple lead changes, the Golden Eagles pulled away late and closed the match strong, hitting .302 in the third set.

SJBK was paced by Co-Player of the Year Jeremias Martinez, who finished with a match-high 14 kills, while Trey DeMeo and Etvola Sango added seven kills apiece.

In Purchase, Manhattanville (12-13) bounced back after dropping the opening set to win three straight and secure a spot in the championship match.

The Valiants hit an efficient .314 for the match, including a dominant stretch in sets three and four where they combined for 31 kills and just six errors.

Kyle Simmons led the attack with 15 kills, while Trevor Kolar added 14 kills and two service aces. Joe Gandarillas was highly efficient with 11 kills on .409 hitting, and Justin Lau chipped in six kills on .556 hitting.

Setters Mason Moon and Pedro Machado combined for 45 assists, helping power a balanced offensive effort.

Purchase (12-15) was led by Udel Phillips with 15 kills (.324), while Jael Martinez and Hector Ruiz added 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Championship Matchup
St. Joseph’s-Long Island will host Manhattanville in the Skyline Conference Championship Final on Saturday, April 11, at 11:00 am.
