Patchogue, NY | Top-seeded St. Joseph’s University-Long Island captured its fifth consecutive Skyline Conference Men’s Volleyball Championship on Saturday morning, defeating No. 3 Manhattanville University in straight sets, 25-15, 25-18, 25-20, at the John A. Danzi Center Gym.
St. Joseph’s-Long Island (21-9) controlled the match offensively, hitting .255 as a team while limiting Manhattanville to just an .081 hitting percentage. The Golden Eagles were particularly efficient in the opening two sets, committing just four total errors while building early momentum.
Chris Saricola led the attack with 11 kills, adding four block assists and nine digs en route to being named Most Outstanding Player. Shaun Mischler contributed nine kills on .320 hitting, while AJ Esposito added seven kills and six total blocks. Setter Dominic Ruggiero directed the offense with 33 assists.
Manhattanville (11-15) was led by Trevor Kolar, who recorded a match-high 13 kills, while Kyle Simmons and Joe Gandarillas each added nine kills. Despite a more competitive third set that featured six tie scores, the Valiants were unable to overcome St. Joseph’s-Long Island’s efficiency at the net.
With the victory, St. Joseph’s-Long Island secures the Skyline Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball Championship. The DIII Men's Volleyball selection show is scheduled for Monday, April 13 and can be viewed on the NCAA website at this
