Swimmer of the Week
 
Brendan Baser, Merchant Marine (10/27)
Sophomore; Cary, Ill./Prairie Ridge


Baser opened the season in dominant fashion, winning all three of his events to help the Mariners to victories over SUNY Maritime and host Sarah Lawrence. The sophomore swept both distance freestyle races—touching first in the 1000 Free (10:32.45) and 500 Free (5:09.49)—before closing the meet as the third leg of USMMA’s winning 200 Medley Relay (1:32.75).

Michael D’Ambrosio, Mount Saint Mary (11/3)
Junior; Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell


D’Ambrosio turned in a strong all-around performance for Mount Saint Mary in Saturday’s dual meet against William Paterson, earning a pair of runner-up finishes and a top-five showing across three events. The junior placed second in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.11) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.68) before adding a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.95).

Rookie of the Week
 
Joseph Scarola, Mount Saint Mary (10/27)
Freshman; Wantagh, N.Y. /MacArthur


Scarola impressed in his collegiate debut at Brooklyn College, scoring points in all three of his events. The freshman placed third in the 100 Butterfly (1:06.27), fourth in the 50 Freestyle (25.87), and fourth in the 500 Freestyle (6:08.36), showing early promise in both sprint and mid-distance races for the Knights

Scarola followed his strong debut with another productive outing against William Paterson, earning his first collegiate event win. He captured the 500 Freestyle (6:07.68), finished second in the 1000 Freestyle (13:03.66), and took third in the 100 Butterfly (1:05.48). The Wantagh, N.Y. native has now registered top-three finishes in six consecutive individual events to start his collegiate career.
