November 11, 2025 | Patchogue, N.Y. & Farmingdale, N.Y. – The 2025 Skyline Conference Women’s Volleyball Championship opened Tuesday night with a pair of hard-fought first-round contests, as No. 3 St. Joseph’s University-Long Island and No. 5 Sarah Lawrence College each punched their tickets to the semifinals with dramatic victories.
Sarah Lawrence Outlasts Farmingdale State in Five-Set Thriller
In Farmingdale, fifth-seeded Sarah Lawrence battled past fourth-seeded Farmingdale State in a five-set marathon (25–20, 25–22, 22–25, 19–25, 15–4) to earn its second Skyline semifinal berth since joining the league.
The Gryphons’ balanced attack was led by Athena Kazos and Nikolet Vataj, who each posted 19 kills and combined for 40 points. Sophia Costa directed the offense with 42 assists and added four service aces, while Carolyn Kelly tallied five total blocks and 23 digs to anchor the defense.
After the Rams rallied from a two-set deficit to force a deciding fifth frame, Sarah Lawrence responded with poise—hitting a blistering .667 in the final set to seal the victory. Farmingdale’s Samantha Russo (13 kills, 22 digs) and Lauren Offermann (12 kills, .385 hitting percentage) led the Rams’ attack in the narrow defeat.
St. Joseph’s-Long Island Tops Mount Saint Mary to Advance
Over in Patchogue, the third-seeded St. Joseph’s-Long Island defended its home court with a 3–1 victory (25–22, 24–26, 25–20, 26–24) over sixth-seeded Mount Saint Mary.
The Golden Eagles’ front line dominated, posting a .183 team hitting percentage and outpacing the Knights in kills (59–47). Luciana D’Ambrosio paced SJLI with 18 kills, while Alison Tsororos (13 kills, five aces) and Isabella Juliano (11 kills, .267) added key contributions. Setter Sarah Meininger directed a balanced attack with 54 assists, and libero Sarah Montefusco collected a team-high 29 digs.
Mount Saint Mary’s Julianna Simone led all players with 20 kills, while Jonaiya Williams added 13 kills and 20 digs in a strong two-way effort for the Knights.
