Top-Seeded Manhattanville and No. 3 St. Joseph’s-L.I. Set for Skyline Title Match

Harrison, N.Y. & Kings Point, N.Y. – The top-seeded Manhattanville University and third-seeded St. Joseph’s University-Long Island each earned semifinal victories Thursday evening, advancing to the 2025 Skyline Conference Women’s Volleyball Championship match.

No. 3 St. Joseph’s-Long Island Edges U.S. Merchant Marine in Five-Set Battle

In one of the most thrilling matches of the postseason, third-seeded St. Joseph’s-Long Island (17–9) outlasted second-seeded U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (16–11) in a five-set thriller (26–24, 15–25, 25–23, 24–26, 15–11) on the road at Liebertz Gym.

The Golden Eagles displayed remarkable poise down the stretch, overcoming a fourth-set setback to claim the decisive fifth behind the veteran play of Luciana D’Ambrosio, who posted 15 kills and 22 digs, while Alison Tsororos added eight kills and three aces. Setter Sarah Meininger directed the offense with 36 assists and 15 digs, and Isabella Nieradko contributed five kills, two blocks, and seven points in a balanced effort.

Defensively, libero Sarah Montefusco anchored the back line with 26 digs, and the Golden Eagles combined for eight total blocks to fend off the Mariners’ strong front row.

Merchant Marine was led by Maddie Mayer, who tallied 14 kills and seven blocks, and Carly Soboloski with 12 kills and 20 digs. Sydney Douglas added seven kills and matched a team-high seven block assists. Despite the narrow defeat, the Mariners hit .119 as a team and recorded 24 total blocks in a gritty defensive showing.

No. 1 Manhattanville Sweeps Sarah Lawrence to Reach Title Match

In the evening’s other semifinal, top-seeded Manhattanville (20–7, 11–0 Skyline) extended its unbeaten conference record, sweeping fifth-seeded Sarah Lawrence (14–14, 7–4 Skyline) in straight sets (25–20, 25–18, 25–15) at Kennedy Gymnasium.

Caylin Caballero led all players with 16 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, while Loren Hernandez chipped in 14 kills and 13 digs. Setters Alana Rivera and Samantha Andriola combined for 44 assists and five service aces, and Cassidy Fallon added five kills with five block assists.

For the Gryphons, Athena Kazos tallied eight kills and 11 digs, and Sophia Costa dished out 17 assists with 10 digs. Sarah Lawrence concludes its 2025 campaign having reached the Skyline semifinals for the second straight year.
