Mercardo (above) won the shot put (14.94m; 49-1/4) and discus (48.53m; 159-3), setting career-high marks in both events, at Bonnie Edmondson Classic in Willimantic, Conn ... His shot put mark is the third best in program history, while his discus mark ranks first in the Metro Region, fifth in FSC history and No. 31 nationally.
Rookie of the Week
Garrett Rees, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Freshman, Throws; Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun
Rees (below) finished seventh in the discus and shot put with a toss of 38.24m (125' 5") and a mark of 12.72m (41' 8.75"), a new personal best at the Rider invite ... He also produced new PRs in the hammer throw and javelin with throws of 33.88m (111' 2") and 33.91m (111' 3"), picking up eighth-place finishes in both.

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy freshman jumper Konnor Bye registered his third straight top-five finish in the triple jump at the Rider invite, finishing fourth with a leap of 13.62m (44' 8.25"); he also finished seventh in the long jump with a 6.71m (22' 0.25") mark.
