Mount Saint Mary, Old Westbury Advance in Skyline Softball Championship Opening Round

NEW YORK | The opening round of the 2026 Skyline Conference Softball Championship saw Mount Saint Mary and Old Westbury advance, earning spots in the double-elimination portion of the tournament.

Mount Saint Mary opened postseason play with a shutout victory over Mount Saint Vincent.

The Knights broke through in the third inning on an RBI double from Samantha Stallone and continued to build their lead with a run in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Grace Terpening drove in a pair, while Angela Christopher added an RBI to pace the offense.

In the circle, Grace MacDonald was in control throughout, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just four hits and striking out six.

(5) Old Westbury 6, (4) St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn 2

Old Westbury used a four-run third inning to take control and defeat St. Joseph’s-Brooklyn, 6-2, in the nightcap.

The Panthers capitalized on early opportunities in the third, highlighted by RBI hits from Ashley Pierce and Camila Uribe. Amanda Varela added two RBI, including a run-scoring double in the seventh, while Aliya Feerick led the way with two hits.

Olivia DeRose delivered a standout performance in the circle, earning the complete-game victory after allowing just one hit and striking out seven.

With the wins, Mount Saint Mary and Old Westbury advance to the double-elimination portion of the Skyline Championship. The fifth-seeded Panthers will face top-seeded Manhattanville University on Thursday, May 9 at 1:00 PM, followed by the third-seeded Knights taking on second-seeded Farmingdale State College The remainder of the tournament will be held at Manhattanville University.
