NEW YORK | Higher seeds held serve in the opening round of the 2026 Skyline Conference Men’s Tennis Championship on Monday, as No. 3 United States Merchant Marine Academy and No. 4 Yeshiva University each posted 4-0 victories to advance to the semifinal round.
Merchant Marine swept past No. 6 Mount Saint Mary College at Brooks Stadium Courts in Kings Point. The Mariners grabbed an early edge with wins at first and third doubles, as Brent Mathews and Fredrich Buquel earned a 6-0 victory at the top flight, while Travis Boyd and Zach Diep matched that score at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, Travis Filer secured a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles, Mathews followed with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 1, and Alex Lewis closed out the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at fifth singles.
With the win, Merchant Marine advances to face No. 2 Farmingdale State College in Wednesday’s semifinal round.
Yeshiva also earned a 4-0 decision over No. 5 Purchase College in a match played at Manhattanville University. The Maccabees opened by taking the doubles point behind victories from Jacob Feit and Akiva Gelernter at No. 2 doubles (6-2) and Jack Radinsky with Elan Goldstein at No. 3 doubles (6-1).
Yeshiva then completed the sweep in singles action. Akiva Gelernter rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles, Jack Radinsky added a 6-4, 6-0 result at No. 5, and Aidan Stephen clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory at third singles.
The Maccabees now move on to face top-seeded Manhattanville University in Wednesday’s semifinal round.
