Bronx, N.Y. | The third-seeded St. Joseph’s University-Long Island men’s soccer team claimed the 2025 Skyline Conference Championship on Saturday evening, defeating top-seeded Mount Saint Vincent, 2–1, at the Athletic Field at Marillac to earn the conference’s automatic bid to the 2026 NCAA Division III Championship.
The Golden Eagles delivered a commanding first-half performance, scoring twice in the opening 31 minutes to seize control against the previously unbeaten Dolphins. Just 19 seconds into the match, sophomore Jack Pulisic put SJLI on the board when he finished a quick combination play from Aidan Bayer and Jhon Garces. Pulisic struck again in the 32nd minute, slotting home a pass from Sean Gordon for his second goal of the contest and 14th of the season, giving the visitors a 2–0 lead heading into halftime.
Playing down a man for the final 35 minutes after a red card, St. Joseph’s absorbed relentless pressure from the Dolphin attack. The hosts finally broke through in the 89th minute when Javier Trujillo converted a penalty kick to cut the deficit to one, but the Golden Eagle defense held firm through the closing seconds to secure the victory.
Goalkeeper Dean Burchard made three key saves to preserve the win, including a diving stop on a late Trujillo chance that kept the momentum with St. Joseph’s.
The Dolphins finished with a narrow 12–14 shot margin and an 8–2 disadvantage in corner kicks. Samuel Reine posted six saves for Mount Saint Vincent.
For his efforts throughout the tournament, Pulisic (4 goals, 1 assist, 9 points) was named Most Outstanding Player.
