NEW YORK | The 2025 Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Championship opened with a pair of tightly contested first-round matchups on Saturday, as fifth-seeded Mount Saint Mary College and third-seeded St. Joseph's University-Long Island each earned one-goal victories to advance to the semifinals.
At Rams Field in Farmingdale, Mount Saint Mary jumped out to an early lead and held off Farmingdale State, 2–1. Sophomore Kaitlyn Shotter scored twice in the opening 20 minutes — first converting a through ball from Lily Tanko in the 6th minute, then finishing a setup from Kaitlin Hansen in the 21st — to put the Knights ahead 2–0. The Rams cut the deficit in the 78th minute on Katelyn Nunziato's strike, but MSMC goalkeeper Elizabeth Lennane made four saves to secure the win.
In Patchogue, St. Joseph's-Long Island advanced with a 1–0 shutout of Sarah Lawrence. Senior CC Rosario provided the lone goal of the match in the 20th minute, finishing off a pass from Bella Sweet. The Golden Eagles' defense held strong throughout, limiting the Gryphons to five shots while goalkeeper Kristin Vahle recorded her sixth clean sheet of the season.
With the victories, Mount Saint Mary advances to face top-seeded Mount Saint Vincent, while St. Joseph's-Long Island will meet No. 2 seed U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Wednesday's semifinal round. Game times are set for 5:00 pm.
