PURCHASE, N.Y. | U.S. Merchant Marine Academy swam to its eighth consecutive conference crown at Purchase College Sunday, sweeping the men's and women's championships in a familiar outcome for the league.

Kings Point has now secured dual titles in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024 and this winter since rejoining the Skyline (there was no champion crowned in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The men's team has also won 26 straight championships.

Although USMMA championed again, it was an extremely competitive final day of competition, especially on the women's side, where the battle for second place came down to the final event. USMMA bested the field with 744 total points, while Mount Saint Mary edged Sarah Lawrence for second place. The Knights netted 332 points. The Gryphons followed with 330.

On the men's side, USMMA (pictured above) finished with 1,065 points in a dominant performance that was reflected in the final awards as well. MSMC also secured second place, totaling 224 points. St. Joseph's-Long Island finished third with 205.

The Mariners jumped out to strong leads Saturday and were paced by Teague Mayer, Thomas Cable and John Frank. Mayer earned Swimmer of the Year honors for the most points in the championship, while Cable was named Diver of the Year for his high-scoring performance. Frank earned the most points of any freshman swimmer on his way to Rookie of the Year honors for Sean Tedesco's squad. Tedesco repeated as the Coach of the Year on the men's side, sharing the spotlight with diving coach Johan Lopez. Mayer and Cable also repeated their honors from a year ago.

On the women's side, in addition's to MSMC's sterling performance, it was all breakout newcomer Megan Hu of USMMA. The freshman garnered Swimmer of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors for the champions, while MSMC's Chris Mance took home Coach of the Year honors on the women's side in voting conducted by his peers. Mance's Knights had some weekend of their own, collecting a pair of runner-up nods, including the tightly contested final on the women's side. USMMA's Victoria Crofford was named Diver of the Year as the Mariners secured the sweep (team championship pic below).

Big hardware also went to two student-athletes that showed dominance in the classroom while excelling in the pool. The Skyline's Elite 19 Award, modeled off the NCAA's Elite 90 Award, is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in each of the Skyline's 19 championships. Those swim honors went to St. Joseph's-Long Island's Robert Kohlmann and MSMC's Stefanie Sommer. Coleman, a junior, sports a 3.79 GPA. Sommer, a senior, has a 4.0. Both are secondary education majors with a concentration in math.

First and second team All-Skyline honors are presented to the first and second-place winners in each event (see link above).

Prior to Sunday's finale, the conference also recognized seniors from each of the six programs, including Nicole Orellana and Generoso DeVito of St. Joseph's-Long Island; Josie Laur, McKenzie Shaffer-Kay, Eva Guarda-Vazquez of Sarah Lawrence; Raquel Ortiz, Grace MacHugh, Meghan Wurster, Victoria Deluca, Jackson Lerner and Sommer of Mount Saint Mary; Daniel Maloney, Django Miceli, David Whitmer, Isabella Morabito and Jessica Scott of Purchase; Lauren Barriteau, Mary Cirelli and Aisling Donnelly of Maritime; Haley Agin, Michael Brent, Evan Davis, Joseph DeCarlo, Morgan Falanga, Michael Frame, Brenden Griffiths, Christiaan Lee, Laura Sherril, Daniel Sherrer, Andrew Turbyfill and Dylan White of USMMA.
