NEW YORK | The champions of the conference are well represented on the league's 2023 softball all-conference team.
The Skyline Conference's 10 head softball coaches have voted on this year's squad, and Manhattanville senior outfielder Sarah Harker has been tabbed as Player of the Year. Harker and her teammates account for 10 selections on the first team, including ace Charli Shinstine, who has been chosen as the Pitcher of the Year.
Farmingdale State freshman first baseman/designated player Samantha Stolfi is the Rookie of the Year, while Manhattanville head coach, Dale Martin, was chosen as Coach of the Year by his peers after leading the Valiants into the postseason riding a 30-game winning streak – the longest active streak in NCAA DIII at the time of voting.
Harker (below) paced the conference in hits, doubles and triples, ranking second in the Skyline in batting average during the regular season. She was second among all Skyline batters in slugging, OPS, runs scored and home runs, and third in RBI, fifth in OBP and eighth in steals. She was named Skyline Player of the Week and NFCA Top Weekly Performer once during the season. Manhattanville would extend that winning streak to 31 games in the championship over the weekend before losing to second-seeded Farmingdale State. The Valiants needed to win out to clinch the title, and did, sweeping FSC on championship Sunday to advance to the NCAAs.

While Harker powered the offense, Shinstine (below) dominated in the circle. She is the conference leader in ERA, opposing batting average, strikeouts and wins, and went a perfect 19-0 across her starts during the regular season. She contributed to three no-hitters and a perfect game on the year. The five-time Skyline Pitcher of the Week was also a five-time NFCA Top Performer, pitching to the tune of a 0.66 ERA and ranking in the top 10 in all of NCAA DIII in ERA, hits allowed per seven, and strikeouts per seven.
Stolfi (below) was key to the Rams offense as Farmingdale State presented a serious challenger to Manhattanville's historic season. The cleanup hitter led the Skyline with 40 RBI and ranked fourth with 43 hits, ranking nationally in RBI/gm. The two-time Skyline Rookie of the Week selection was tied for second in conference play in RBI, and tied for third in hits entering the postseason.
The most successful coach in Valiant softball history and the winningest coach in Manhattanville history, Martin (below) finished the 11th season of his second stint in Purchase and 17th season overall at the helm of the program in 2023.
Martin was named the Skyline's Coach of the Year, winning the accolade for a third-consecutive year and for the sixth time overall, as the Valiants set a program record for wins during their notable streak. A nine-time conference Coach of the Year, Martin is the program's all-time leader in wins, games coached and winning percentage.
