Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference Team Announced

NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference's nine head women's lacrosse coaches have cast their ballots for the 2023 all-conference team, naming Mount Saint Vincent’s Alicia Rodriguez the Offensive Player of the Year and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s Jaqui Sheedy the Defensive Player of the Year.

Manhattanville freshman attacker Pietra Cabral was selected as Rookie of the Year, while Maritime’s Kerri Handras has been named Coach of the Year in voting conducted by her peers.

Rodriguez (below) fired home 42 goals for the Dolphins. She finished the regular season leading the conference in goals, points per game and ground balls. She was also second in draw controls and third in caused turnovers for CMSV. The do-it-all midfielder was named Skyline Player of the Week once during the final week of the regular season, when she scored 10 goals with four assists in a 2-0 week against Farmingdale State and Purchase.

Sheedy (below) was named Defensive Player of the Week once herself. The midfielder ranked among the best nationally. She is top 25 in NCAA rankings after leading the Skyline in draw controls per game (7.62). She is also top 40 in caused turnovers per game (2.38) – a stat she leads the conference in – and ground balls per game (4.23). She helped the second-seeded Mariners clinch a postseason berth by recording 52 points, 30 goals, 22 assists, 111 draw controls, 59 ground balls and 35 caused turnovers. Backed by Sheedy, USMMA took down top-seeded Maritime in the championship.

Cabral (below) was an impact newcomer for the Valiants, netting three Skyline Rookie of the Week honors this spring. She ranked fourth on the team in goals and assists, helping Manhattanville reach the postseason with a 5-3 mark in conference play.

Under Handras’ guidance, Maritime enjoyed the most successful season in program history. The Privateers set a program record with 13 wins, earned a share of the Skyline regular-season title for the first time, and made their first Skyline Championship game appearance. The third-year coach (below) takes home her first Skyline Coach of the Year honor.
