NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference's eight head softball coaches have voted on the 2021 edition of the all-conference team, and St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn junior third base Ashleigh Hartwig and Farmingdale State College sophomore righty Allie Stanya were tabbed as Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
Manhattanville College shortstop Jayleen Torres was tapped as Rookie of the Year, while Farmingdale State's Liz Pennino and Manhattanville's Dale Martin share Coach of the Year praise after voting by their peers.
Hartwig, the 2019 Skyline Player of the Year, tied for the conference batting title with a .556 average, while topping the leaderboard in slugging percentage (.914) and RBI (34).
Stanya, the Most Outstanding Player of last weekend's conference championship, enters NCAA regional play with a 13-2 record, a 0.65 ERA, .188 batting average against, 97 strikeouts and a conference-high six complete-game shutouts.
Torres tied for sixth in the Skyline with a .466 batting average, scored 34 runs and laced 15 extra-base hits (9 2B, 3 3B, 3 HR) while driving in 28 runs. She also was a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts on the season.
Pennino is in her second academic year at the helm of the Rams program following a seven-year stint as assistant coach. After the 2020 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Manhattan College alumna guided Farmingdale State to last weekend's Skyline Conference Championship title.
Martin has been the Valiants' head coach for 14 seasons, including the last eight since his return to the Purchase, N.Y., campus. The Eastern Mennonite alumnus previously won Skyline Coach of the Year accolades in 2002, 2005 and 2007.
