Centerville, Mass. - Old Westbury senior center Tavon McNair has been named the Division III Men's Basketball Metro Region Player of the Week by the ECAC after leading the Panthers to a perfect 3-0 mark on the week.
McNair averaged 23.5 points and 13.5 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field in a 3-0 week for Old Westbury. He dropped 29 points on 10-of-17 shooting while pulling down nine boards in OW's 78-66 victory over Purchase. He closed out the week by posting his fourth double-double of the season by combining 19 points and a career-high 18 rebounds to go along with two steals against NYU-Poly as the Panthers rolled to a 73-52 victory.
On the season, the Brooklyn, N.Y., native is averaging 16.5 points (4th in Skyline), 9.2 rebounds (3rd in Skyline) and 1.0 steal per game while shooting 50.4 percent (10th in Skyline) from the field. McNair shared Skyline Player of the Week honors with AJ Matthews of Farmingdale State.
The Panthers return to the hardwood for a Skyline Conference battle on Thursday, Jan. 19, when they hit the road to take on the St. Joseph's-L.I. in Patchogue, N.Y. Game time is set to tip at 7:00 p.m. inside the Danzi Center.
