Yeshiva’s Season Ends in NCAA Sweet Sixteen Against Emory, 101-80

ATLANTA, GA | The Yeshiva University men’s basketball team saw its NCAA Tournament run come to an end Friday afternoon with a 101–80 loss to Emory University in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship at the Woodruff P.E. Center.

The Maccabees (22-9) stayed within striking distance in the opening half, trailing 51–44 at the break after shooting 50 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes. Emory (25-3) extended its lead in the second half behind strong interior play, finishing with 56 points in the paint and a 49-34 rebounding advantage.

Senior Zevi Samet delivered a standout performance for Yeshiva, pouring in a game-high 43 points on 15-of-24 shooting, including six three-pointers, while adding six rebounds and five assists. Yoav Oselka also had a strong outing with 20 points and five rebounds, while Roy Itcovichi contributed eight points.

Emory placed five players in double figures, led by Ben Pearce’s 26 points. A.J. Harris and Ethan Fauss each scored 19 points, while Mario Awasum added 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Eagles shot 48.1 percent from the field and held a 49-34 rebounding advantage, scoring 56 points in the paint.

This is the second time in program history that YU has advanced to the Sweet 16, and the first they have been able to play in it, with their first bid being cancelled due to Covid-19 back in the 2019-20 season.
