THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – SUNY Maritime College has announced the appointment of Dick Hack to lead the men’s basketball program for the 2010-11 campaign.
Hack, who will continue his campus duties as Director of Athletics, will be the 12th head coach in the 56-year history of the program.
Hack joined the Maritime College staff as the Director of Athletics in 2008. He has been involved with coaching basketball on the collegiate level for over 25 years, serving as a head coach for 19 years. During his tenure as a head coach, Hack amassed over 340 career wins, averaging close to 18 wins per season, has reach the 20+ win plateau eight seasons and has won 10 Holiday or Tip-Off Tournament Championships. During Hack’s career, he has been selected Coach of the Year on three separate occasions and has coached 14 Academic All-Americans and four All-Americans.
For 15 years, Hack directed the Hoosier Basketball Camp at Tri-State University and founded the Tri-State Team Camp. Both camps serviced over 15,200 campers.
Dual responsibilities are nothing new for Hack. Along his professional career, Hack has coached basketball and at one time or another held the following positions simultaneously: Director of Athletics, Dean of Students and Department Chair of Physical Education and Camp Director.
Hack was recently appointed to the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel (PROP) after serving four years and chairing the NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee.
Hack and his wife, Sharon, have two sons: Todd and Scott.
