St. Joseph's captures third straight Skyline Conference Presidents Cup

2009-10 Skyline Conference Presidents Cup Standings (PDF)

St. Joseph’s College, which captured two Skyline Conference titles and earned two runner-up finishes among its 13 conference sports, captured its second straight Skyline Conference Presidents Cup, a measure of all-sports excellence in conference competition.

St. Joseph's has captured the Skyline Conference Presidents Cup in each of the three years since the creation of the award in 2007-08.  This past year, the Golden Eagles captured Skyline Conference titles in men's soccer and men's tennis while earning runner-up finishes in women's cross country and golf.  Several other teams had strong regular seasons as well with women's volleyball, men's basketball and baseball all finishing second during the regular season.

Farmingdale State College, which finished second, also had an outstanding year.  The Rams captured five conference titles for the second consecutive year. Farmingdale State captured Skyline championships in golf, men's cross country, women’s soccer, women's basketball, and baseball.

A school earns points toward the Presidents Cup based upon the conference finish in each sport in which it competes. For each sport, the maximum number of points an institution can earn is equal to the number of teams competing in that sport. For example, there are nine institutions competing in women’s tennis, so a team could receive up to nine points if it finished first in both the regular season and conference tournament.

For sports with both regular-season and conference tournament play, a school receives points based upon an average of the regular-season and conference tournament finishes. For sports with only conference championships, the finish in the championship determines the Presidents Cup points.
An overall rating is generated for each school which is a percentage of total points earned divided by total points possible for that school.

St. Joseph’s had an overall rating of .776, finishing just ahead of Farmingdale State (.772) in the closest Presidents Cup race in three years.  Mount Saint Mary College placed third with a rating of .637. Purchase College, SUNY finished fourth with a rating of ,557.
