Merchant Marine Sets the Pace on Day One of Skyline Swimming & Diving Championships

DAY ONE RESULTS

Kings Point, N.Y.
— The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy surged to the top of both team standings after a dominant opening day at the 2026 Skyline Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, capturing multiple relay wins, individual titles, and both diving events to build an early cushion heading into Saturday’s finals.

Through Day One, Merchant Marine leads the women’s field with 179 points, followed by Mount Saint Mary (119), Sarah Lawrence (112), St. Joseph’s-Long Island (73), and Maritime (47). 

On the men’s side, the Mariners hold a commanding 312 points, ahead of Maritime (101), Mount Saint Mary (72) and St. Joseph’s-Long Island (54). 

Women’s Highlights

Merchant Marine opened the meet with a relay victory in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking 1:40.95 for 32 points. 

In the distance events, first-year Natalie Scafetta claimed the 500 freestyle title in 5:19.44, adding 16 points for the Mariners.

St. Joseph’s-Long Island picked up an individual championship behind AvaGrace Monti, who captured the 200 IM in 2:17.10, while Mount Saint Mary’s Antonia Licardi broke through for gold in the 50 freestyle with a winning time of 24.88. 

Mount Saint Mary closed the night strong in the 200 medley relay, winning in 2:01.43. 

On the boards, Merchant Marine swept the 1-meter diving competition, led by Tori Crofford (255.15) and Berlin Sandberg (239.15) 

Men’s Highlights

Merchant Marine controlled the men’s races from the start, winning the 200 freestyle relay in 1:26.48 and the 200 medley relay in 1:34.59.

The Mariners then swept the top of the podium in the 500 freestyle, led by Ryan Lester (4:53.18), followed closely by teammates Abraham Shim and Brendan Baser.

In the 200 IM, Merchant Marine continued its run with Teague Mayer (1:58.52) touching first, while Max Fedorenko sprinted to victory in the 50 freestyle in 21.57. 

The Mariners also dominated diving, sweeping the 3-meter event behind Carter Kov (492.10), Thomas Cable (484.55) and Charles Williams (364.90).
