NEW YORK | A program-best nine First Team all-conference selections for the league’s No. 1 seed entering tonight’s semifinals in the 2025 Skyline Conference Men’s Lacrosse Championship.
The Skyline Conference's eight head men's lacrosse coaches cast their votes in the latest edition of the all-conference team and have leaned heavily in the direction of top-seeded Farmingdale State. In addition to the nine and 11 overall between the first and second teams, Andrew Giovinco is the league’s Offensive Player of the Year and Dan Erler is the Defensive Player of the Year, while head coach Sean Chamberlain shares the Coach of the Year honor with Dan Paccione of U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a second straight spring.
Fellow postseason participant Nicholas Uzakewicz of Maritime is the Rookie of the Year.
No. 1 FSC, No. 2 USMMA and No. 3 Maritime all finished 6-1 in league play. The tiebreaker came down to goal differential between the teams with FSC first, USMMA second and Maritime third in the seeding. Semifinal action begins tonight at the highest seeds.
As for the major awards, Giovinco (below) starred offensively for the Rams. The team's leading goal scorer (40, No. 2 in Skyline) is also No. 3 in points (60, No. 2 in Skyline). He ranked second in Skyline games with 21 goals and was once named the Skyline Offensive Player of the Week during the spring.
While Giovinco handled the offense for FSC, Erler, the career wins leader for the Rams in goal, anchored the defense. The five-time Defensive Player of the Week selection is the backstop on the nation's fourth-ranked scoring defense. Erler holds the conference's top goals against average (No. 9 in Div. III), and ranks second in save percentage (No. 27 in Div. III).
Uzakewicz (below) hit the ground running for Maritime in his first season, and helped the Privateers challenge for the top seed during the regular season. He finished at the top in points, assists, Assists Per Game and Points Per Game categories for the Privateers. He also showed a flair for the dramatic, notching two game-tying goals with less than 10 seconds in games that went into OT.
Chamberlain and Paccione have been named Co-Coach of the Year in voting conducted by their peers in consecutive seasons.
Chamberlain (below) took over at FSC in September of 2014 and was named the 2016 Skyline Coach of the Year. This is his third Skyline Coach of the Year honor and the second for Paccione.
A 2007 Stony Brook alumnus, Chamberlain was a team captain as a senior and helped the Seawolves reach the America East title game all four years.
Paccione (below) took over as the USMMA men's lacrosse head coach ahead of the 2022 season. Paccione came to Kings Point after spending 15 years running the offense at nearby St. John’s University. He played lacrosse for the University of Massachusetts and graduated in 2002 with a bachelor of science degree in sports management. He led the Minutemen to two ECAC Championships in 2001 and 2002, and the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2002.
After graduating from UMass, Paccione played professionally in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and Major League Lacrosse (MLL). He won an MLL Championship in 2003 and 2004.
Six standouts from Maritime and two from USMMA round out the First Team selections. The two teams are outlined below.
The head coaches also announced their respective recipients for the All-Sportsmanship Team (below). The conference recognizes All-Sportsmanship Team members in all 19 of its championship sports, with each program announcing one recipient for his or her sportsmanlike demeanor – both in and out of competition.
