FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and host Farmingdale State split the Skyline Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.
FSC, who entered the day as the reigning champs on both sides, won the men's title in 2025 (above) and finished second to USMMA on the women's side as the Mariners won the 2025 women's crown (below).
USMMA also finished second to the FSC men as the two programs headlined the team results. Mount Saint Mary and Manhattanville came in third and fouth, respectively on both sides during a chilly morning and afternoon in Farmingdale.
Individual student-athlete winners, along with the winning relay team members, received first-team All-Skyline Conference distinction, while individual second-place finishers earned second-team all-conference kudos (link above). Seniors were also recognized during the post-meet ceremony, along with the two Elite 19 winners.
The Skyline's Elite 19, modeled off of the NCAA's Elite 90 Award, is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in each of the Skyline's 19 championships. Those honors went to Matthew Boggi of Manhattanville on the men's side, a social studies education major with a minor in musical theatre, and Kaitlin Hansen of Mount Saint Mary on the women's side, a childhood education major.
As for the meet, FSC's Davian Rodriguez and Adonias Mercado paced the Rams, with Rodriguez taking home the Rookie of the Year award and Mercado garnering Field Athlete of the Year for his performance. Alex Burita of USMMA lifted the Mariners to a second-place finish and earned Track Athlete of the Year in the process.
Mercado won the shot put with a regional-qualifying mark of 16.54m (54-3.25), while also topping the field in the hammer throw (48.34m; 158-7) and the shot put (44.22m; 145-1).
The women's side saw USMMA's Katherine Kerchner and Morgan Doll spearhead the effort. Doll was the top scoring freshman and won the Rookie of the Year at the meet. Kerchner distanced herself in the track events on her way to Track Athlete of the Year. Olivia Finnegan set the tone for the Rams in their runner-up finish, notching the Field Athlete of the Year.
Kerchner had herself a day winning all four events she competed in, registering personal bests in the 800m and 1500m with times of 2:41.40 and 5:51.78. She also claimed the top spot in the 5000m and the 3000m steeplechase in 22:33.05 and 14:16.15.
Doll grabbed three first-place finishes, two of them in the 100 and 400 hurdles with times of 17.19 and 1:13.53, which were also personal bests.
For USMMA, this is the program's first-ever Skyline title on the women's side.
The head coaches also announced their respective recipients for the All-Sportsmanship Team (below). The conference recognizes All-Sportsmanship Team members in all 19 of its championship sports, with each program announcing one recipient for his or her sportsmanlike demeanor – both in and out of competition.
FSC's Daniela Georgieva was named Coach of the Year for both the men and women in voting conducted by her peers.
