NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference's four head men's and women’s outdoor track and field coaches predict a similar outcome this spring in the latest edition of the 2023 preseason poll for the two sports.

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men and the Farmingdale State women have been picked to defend their Skyline crowns.

The two programs received three first-place votes (coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team).
On the men’s side, the FSC men are projected second, while USMMA has been tabbed to finish second behind the Rams in the women’s poll.

The Mariners are searching for their third straight conference championship, winning in 2021 and 2022 (pictured below). The Farmingdale men captured titles in 2018 and 2019.

The FSC women are looking to make it five in a row. The Rams won in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 (above top).

On the women’s side, FSC head coach Daniela Georgieva’s squad remains loaded. Khadia Jenkins was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer as well as Rookie of the Year last spring. She returns to anchor FSC. Jenkins posted first-place finishes in the Hammer Throw (36.74m) and Discus (27.75m), and second-place finishes in the High Jump (1.55m) and Shot Put (10.87m). Teammate Alycia Haynes garnered Most Outstanding Track Performer honors in 2022. She earned victories in the 800m (2:31.75), 1500m (5:54.16) and 5000m (36:040), and is also back for FSC.

Like Georgieva, USMMA head coach Kayla Koelbel was named Coach of the Year. Her men’s team features breakout newcomers Isaac Clark and Luke Zwiesler. In late February at West Point, Clark crossed the finish line first in both the one-mile run (4:21.41) and the 3000m run (8:39.42), while Zwiesler finished right behind Clark in the mile run, placing second in 4:25.58. The duo is expected to fill some of the void left behind by stars Aodhan Meyer and Michael Delesdernier, who graduated.

The Mount Saint Mary men received the other first-place vote and are ranked third in the poll. USMMA received the final first-place vote on the women’s side, with MSMC and Manhattanville tying for third in the women’s results.

The 2023 Skyline Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place at Brooks Stadium & Captain James Harvey Tomb Field on the USMMA campus on Sunday, April 23.
