MILTON, N.Y. | Maritime's Adelle Leger and Aisling Donnelly lifted the Privateers to a first-place finish on the women's side in the 2023 Skyline Conference Cross Country Championships, while U.S. Merchant Marine Academy made it five-straight titles and nine overall on the men's side Sunday at Hudson Valley Sports Dome.
Leger and Donnelly took third and eighth, respectively, while teammates Mary Cirelli and Hannah Smith finished 11th and 12th, leading Maritime to a score of 72 on the day. Farmingdale State took second, while USMMA, last year's champ, finished third. Manhattanville and Sarah Lawrence rounded out the top five on the women's side, which was dominated by individual champion Katherine Kerchner, the Runner of the Year. She completed the 6K in 25:48.2 ahead of runner-up Gianna Dickson of St. Joseph's-Long Island. After Leger, Marissa Degni of St. Joseph's-Long Island and Alycia Haynes of Farmingdale State finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Purchase freshman Chloe McDonald, who came in sixth, earned Rookie of the Year honors as the top finishing newcomer.
The top seven runners on each side received First Team All-Conference honors. The next seven runners received Second Team All-Conference recognition (details below).
On the men's side, Matt Lopez of St. Joseph's-Long Island, paced the field. He finished the 8K in 27.28.6 to earn Runner of the Year honors. He finished ahead of Farmingdale State's freshman Zackary Gopie, the Rookie of the Year.
USMMA's repeat title (below) was spearheaded by Silas Glynn and Casey Symons, who finished third and fourth, respectively, and picked up the slack with the loss of standout Luke Zweisler to injury during the race. Alex Burita and Lance Clemons came in sixth and 10th for the Mariners on their way to all-conference nods to bolster USMMA's drive for five. St. Joseph's-LI came in second as a team, while FSC took third.

Ryan Steinberg teamed with Lopez to lift the Golden Eagles. Steinberg finished seventh overall. Maritime's Jake Mundok completed the top five.
In the process, St. Joseph's-LI head coach Jim Crowley in voting conducted by his peers earned Coach of the Year honors on the men's side. That honor went to Michael Cameron of Manhattanville on the women's side.
This year's championship, the first under new commissioner, Melissa Reilly, featured a slew of enhancements, including new champion shirts and trophies. All participants also received championship wristbands for the first time with the league's branding #BeUnstoppable.
The finish line was also decked out with a new banner and digital board adding to the championship feel for the student-athletes. The championship was hosted by Mount Saint Mary, under the direction of head coach Fred Callo and athletic director Drew Brown.
