NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference announces its 14 Scholar-Athletes of the Year from this past winter and spring seasons.
The Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award is presented in each sport to the first-team All-Skyline performer who carries the highest grade point average (minimum 3.30) for the semester in which the student-athlete competes.
Baseball
Matt DiNorcia, Grad Student, College of Mount Saint Vincent
The Dolphins captain and his .411 batting average and 1.029 OPS earned him a spot on D3Baseball's Third Team all-Region and ABCA's Second Team. Had 69 total hits, including 11 doubles, four triples and a home run.
Golf
Ryan Moran, Junior, Manhattanville
Moran competed at all 10 events over his first year at Manhattanville, playing 14 total rounds, He posted seven top-10 finishes over the year, including second overall at the Skyline Conference Championships with a two-round score of 152 (+8).
Men’s Basketball
Spencer Malloy, Sophomore, St. Joseph’s College-Long Island
Malloy, a three-time Rookie of the Week, finished ninth in the conference in scoring (15.2 PPG) and fifth in rebounding (8.0 RPG). Additionally, he was third in field goal percentage (54.9%). He was later named All-Met and D3Hoops.com All-Region.
Men's Lacrosse
Jason Aiello, Senior, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
In 2022, Aiello compiled 21 caused turnovers, while also scooping up 46 ground balls. He finished his collegiate career as a three-time first team defender with 66 caused turnovers and 123 ground balls over 39 games.
Men's Outdoor Track and Field
Lance Clemons, Sophomore, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Clemons was part of the Mariners' victorious 4x400m relay team (3:31.96) at Skyline Championships. In the process, USMMA won back-to-back Skyline Outdoor Track & Field Championship crowns.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
David McCranie, Junior, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
McCranie won the 50 (22.19) and 100 (47.89) Free events at conference championships, helping lead the United States Merchant Marine Academy to the Skyline title. He later competed at NCAA Championships, earning a lifetime-best in the 100-yard butterfly (50.55).
Men's Tennis
Tomer Mendler, Grad Student, Yeshiva
Mendler went 8-4 at the No. 1 singles position, and earned six No. 1 doubles victories. He also went undefeated in the conference tournament, highlighted by victories in both first flight singles and doubles play over Manhattanville in the Skyline Championship.
Men's Volleyball
Conor Charlow, Grad Student, Ramapo
Charlow led the Roadrunners hitting .326 this season and finished with 142 kills. He also collected 12 assists, a team-leading 25 aces and a perfect passing percentage.
Paul Curaro, Grad Student, St. Joseph’s-Long Island
Curaro was named the Skyline Player of the Year. The three-time Player of the Week ranked among the Skyline leaders in several statistical categories, including service aces (0.86, 1st), kills (323, 2nd ), kills average (3.71, 3rd), and hitting percentage (.310, 5th).
Nate Davis, Sophomore, Sarah Lawrence
Davis ended the 2022 season as the Division III leader in kills per set, points per set, and attacks per set. He set the Division III all-time record for kills in a four-set match, going for 40 in a 3-1 win against St. Joseph's College of Brooklyn on March 10.
Softball
Ashleigh Hartwig, Senior, St. Joseph's-Brooklyn
The Skyline Player of the Year graduates as the Bears' all-time leader in batting average (.521), slugging percentage (.791), on-base percentage (.569), doubles (49), total bases (269), and assists (230), while finishing second in hits (177), runs batted in (127), and home runs (11).
Women’s Basketball
Victoria Hanley, Senior, College of Mount Saint Vincent
Hanley paced the Dolphins in scoring and on the boards, netting 14 points and hauling in over nine rebounds per contest. While a neck injury ended her season prematurely, she helped CMSV finish third in the standings, registering a team-high six double-doubles.
Women's Lacrosse
Jillian Hummel, Senior, St. Joseph's-Long Island
Hummel led the Skyline with a .536 save percentage, good for 12th nationally. The goalie finished second in the conference, averaging 11.67 saves per game while posting a career-best 20 saves against Maritime on April 1.
Women's Tennis
Simi Rao, Freshman, Sarah Lawrence
The Skyline Rookie of the Year won the deciding singles match in the conference semifinals against Purchase. She went 6-3 overall in singles, including a 4-2 conference mark and a perfect 3-0 record at No. 1.
Women's Outdoor Track and Field
Madison Reddick, Senior, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Reddick won the triple jump (10.30m) and javelin (35.14m) at Skyline Championships, leading USMMA to a runner-up finish.
Women’s Swimming & Diving
Drew Lei-Alerta, Senior, Sarah Lawrence
Lei-Alerta won the100-yard butterfly (59.86) at Skyline Championships, setting a meet record in the event. She also added a second in the 100 free and as part of the 200 Medley Relay team. This month, she was nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
