Thomas Haggerty of Farmingdale State has been named Offensive Player of the Year, St. Joseph’s-Long Island’s Andrew Brust has earned Defensive Player of the Year honors, USMMA’s Jack Collins and Michael Monahan of Maritime share Rookie of the Year laurels, and Tom Rotanz of St. Joseph’s-Long Island has been named Coach of the Year in voting among the Skyline Conference coaches.
For the second year in a row, Haggerty has been voted the Skyline Conference’s top offensive player. The senior from Centerport, N.Y. led the league with 23 goals, 23 assists, 46 points, and 74 shots in conference play as the Rams went 5-2. It is the second year in a row Haggerty has led the conference in all four categories.
Brust repeats as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. The senior from Shirley, N.Y., posted a 7.26 goals against average as the Golden Eagles went 4-3 in Skyline play. He also recorded a .587 save percentage and averaged 9.14 saves per game.
Monahan and Collins share the Rookie of the Year award. Monahan, a freshman goalkeeper from
Ronkonkoma, N.Y., finished second in the Skyline in goals against average (5.13) and save percentage (.667) as the Privateers went 7-0 against league competition play. Collins, an attack from Memphis, was second to just Haggerty in goals (22) and points (35) while tying for fifth with 13 assists.
In his sixth season at St. Joseph’s-Long Island, Rotanz guided the Golden Eagles to a fourth place finish in the Skyline standings and a berth in the league tournament. Before his tenure with the Golden Eagles, he was a three-time Newsday Long Island coach of the year who won 256 games at Shoreham-Wading River High School.
