FARMINGDALE, N.Y. | Third-seeded Sarah Lawrence College took control Saturday afternoon by winning two out of three doubles matches, before capturing three consecutive singles matches, as the Gryphons (10-3) earned the school's first-ever Skyline Conference championship in any sport, capturing the Women's Tennis Championship by a 5-1 count at top-seeded Farmingdale State College.
With the victory, head coach Thad Hughes's Sarah Lawrence side has now earned automatic qualification to this coming May's 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship.
SLC knotted the team match at 1-all in the No. 2 doubles flight, where Sasha Conner and Sophie Holmes registered an 8-4 decision over Farmingdale State's (11-4) Shari Jackson and Katherine Del Valle. From there, the Gryphons went into singles play up 2-1 after Simi Rao and championship Most Outstanding Player, Isabella Hardman picked up an 8-7 triumph at the top doubles flight by virtue of a 7-4 tiebreaker victory over Anastasia Hoffman and Lien Collings.
In singles action, Holmes defeated Mia Murrell at the No. 4 flight, 6-3 and 6-4, while Bella Biane took home a 6-3, 6-0 triumph at No. 5 versus the Rams' Susana Pariona. Conner wrapped things up for the Gryphons with a three-set decision at No. 3 singles, coming back from a set down against Jackson to win 3-6, 6-3 and 6-4.
