Back-to-Back Champions! Manhattanville Claims Second Straight Skyline Women's Tennis Title

PURCHASE, N.Y. | Manhattanville University captured its second straight Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday afternoon, defeating Farmingdale State 4-0 at the Manhattanville Tennis Courts.

The Valiants (10-1) continued their championship success with a strong doubles performance and three straight-set singles victories to defeat the Rams (11-7) and defend their conference crown.

Manhattanville opened the afternoon by claiming the doubles point in a tightly contested opening round. Maria Gutierrez and Maddie Maras got the Valiants started with a 6-2 victory over Ana Hernandez and Emily Vazquez at No. 3 doubles.

Farmingdale State answered at No. 2 doubles, where Kaelin Burnett and Emma Johannsen defeated Jenifer Lalman and Addison Ortiz, 6-4, to even the doubles results.

With the opening point hanging in the balance, Adrianna Filippelli and Amaya Ortiz delivered a 7-5 victory over Natalia Furchel and Gabriella Loria at No. 1 doubles, giving the Valiants a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.

Manhattanville carried that momentum into singles competition, where Amaya Ortiz, who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, earned a convincing 6-2, 6-1 victory over Burnett at the No. 2 position to extend the lead to 2-0.

Addison Ortiz followed with a dominant performance at No. 4 singles, defeating Hernandez, 6-0, 6-1, to bring the Valiants within one point of the championship.

Maddie Maras then sealed the title with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Vazquez at No. 6 singles, completing Manhattanville's 4-0 championship win.

The remaining singles matches went unfinished once the Valiants secured the decisive fourth point.

With the victory, Manhattanville completed a dominant postseason run, recording consecutive 4-0 shutouts against St. Joseph's-Long Island in the semifinals and Farmingdale State in the championship match.

The Valiants will now represent the Skyline Conference in the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship in the spring.
