RIVERDALE, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent Director of Athletics Steve Macias has announced the hiring of Felicia Amaral to the positions of head women’s soccer coach and assistant athletic trainer. Amaral was a standout goalkeeper for Long Island University (LIU) from 2004-07 and also worked in Sports Medicine at the Division I level at both LIU and Columbia University.
During her four year playing career, Amaral helped the Blackbirds to the NCAA Division I National Tournament after guiding them to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship. During the 2007 season she was named Second Team All-NEC as a goalkeeper as well as to the NEC Academic Honor Roll.
Amaral also holds the school single season record at LIU for shutouts in a season with nine, which she recorded in 2007.
As an Athletic Trainer, Amaral started her clinical experience in college athletics at LIU during the 2007-08 academic year, working with the Women’s Basketball, Baseball and women’s soccer squads. In that capacity she was involved with game day preparations and evaluations as well as pre-season physicals, fitness tests and preventative strength and conditions programs.
In January 2009, Amaral moved on to Columbia University where worked with both men’s and women’s basketball and football, before moving back to LIU in January 2010. In her second stint at LIU she worked on treatment plans and rehabilitation programs and served as the Head Athletic Training Student for the SNY High School Invitational Tournament.
Amaral is currently a member of the National Athletic Training Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She is also an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer and Lifeguard and is Red Cross Professional Rescuer CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor.
Amaral, who earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Athletic Training from LIU, currently resides in Brooklyn, N.Y.
