Men's Basketball All-Conference Team Announced

Yeshiva's Gabriel Leifer
NEW YORK | The Skyline Conference's 11 men's basketball head coaches have cast their votes on the 2018-19 all-conference team, and Yeshiva University junior forward Gabriel Leifer has been chosen as the Player of the Year.

Yeshiva freshman guard Ryan Turell is the conference's Rookie of the Year, while Farmingdale State College senior forward George Riefenstahl was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Year. Sarah Lawrence College seventh-year mentor Chris Ehmer has been selected Coach of the Year in voting by his peers.

Leifer sits atop the Skyline leaderboard in most statistical categories, including: a No. 1 ranking in assists (5.4/gm.), rebounding (12.0/gm.) and blocked shots (2.4/gm.); a No. 2 ranking in field goal percentage (.561) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.3); No. 3 in steals (2.0/gm.); and No. 5 in scoring (18.1 ppg).

Riefenstahl controlled the low blocks for the Skyline-champion Rams, blocking 62 shots (2.3/gm.) and pulling down 11.0 caroms per outing. His altering of shots in the paint helped Farmingdale State limit the opposition to a .410 field-goal percentage throughout the 2018-19 campaign.

Turell came onto the scene and led the Skyline with a 20.1 points per game average. He ranked third and fourth in field-goal (.539 - tops by a guard) and free-throw (.806) percentage, respectively.

Ehmer, a 2006 Washington College (Md.) alumnus, led the Gryphons into the Skyline Conference Championship tourney for the first time in program history. Sarah Lawrence set program records for overall (14) and conference (12) victories under his tutelage, and earned the No. 5 seed in the conference championship after being chosen No. 9 in the preseason coaches poll.

Leifer, Riefenstahl and Turell are joined on the all-conference first team by: Alan McDonald of SUNY Old Westbury; Elijah Lott of Purchase College, SUNY; Enike Anyia of Sarah Lawrence; and Simcha Halpert of Yeshiva.

Second-team honorees include: Matthew Graham of Farmingdale State; Kendall Francis of Mount Saint Mary College; Pedro Marquez of Old Westbury; Willie Britton of Purchase; and Frank Basile of St. Joseph's College-Long Island.
