Linda M. Bruno was appointed Commissioner of the Skyline Conference in January, 2011, and has more than 30 years of experience at the conference level.
During Bruno’s tenure with the Skyline, four institutions have been added to the conference: Sarah Lawrence College, St. Joseph’s College-Brooklyn, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Manhattanville College. The conference offers 19 championship sports to its membership, and she also served the Skyline Conference as the member of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Committee.
Bruno was the commissioner of the Atlantic 10 Conference for 14 years, including a time as it evolved into one of the prominent basketball conferences in the country in the mid-1990s. Since 1994-95, the conference secured multiple berths to the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament 11 occasions, including five bids in both the 1996-97 and 1997-98 campaigns. Bruno was also responsible for playing host to the 2001 regional championship, and the 2006 first and second rounds of the tournament, in Philadelphia.
A native of Westchester County, N.Y., Bruno served as associate commissioner to Dave Gavitt at the BIG EAST Conference during its meteoric rise through the 1980s. Most recently, she has served as a consultant in intercollegiate athletics, as well as an instructor at Drexel University in Philadelphia.
Bruno, who also served on the athletics staff at Yale University prior to her time with the BIG EAST, was inducted into the Iona College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998. She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the New Rochelle, N.Y., institution and served her alma mater as an academic adviser and as an assistant to the late Jim Valvano.
