KINGS POINT, N.Y.| Three players from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy posted double-doubles Saturday night at Liebertz Gymnasium, as the second-seeded host Mariners defeated fourth-seeded College of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-2 (25-19, 27-25, 15-25, 23-25, 15-12), in the 2017 Skyline Conference Women's Volleyball Championship final.
Head coach Tim Gaiser's Mariners (17-7) have earned the Skyline's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship. USMMA will be returning to "the dance" for the first time since 2001, and will learn their draw via an online selection show at NCAA.com on Monday (Nov. 6) at 12:30 p.m. ET.
Senior outside hitter and championship Most Outstanding Player, Dominique Pope had 12 kills and 15 digs for USMMA, while Kayla Gleason (18 digs) and Kate Lefler (16 d) put down 13 and 12 kills, respectively.
Mount Saint Vincent (18-14) was led by Tara Maloney, who led all players with 19 kills and as many digs.
