NEW YORK - The 2015 Skyline Conference Women's Volleyball Championship gets underway this week, with a pair of first-round contests commencing the six-team tournament.
Mount Saint Vincent (15-13, 9-1 Skyline) holds the top seed in the championship, and like second-seeded Sage (22-10, 9-1), will receive a bye into Thursday night's semifinals.
In first-round matches on Tuesday night at 7 p.m., third-seeded Mount Saint Mary (15-18, 8-2) will welcome the championship's No. 6 seed, Maritime (16-14, 5-5) to the Kaplan Center. Also, St. Joseph's-Long Island (16-15, 8-2) earned the No. 4 seed in the tourney, and will play host to fifth-seeded Farmingdale State (13-13, 6-4) at the Danzi Center.
Mount Saint Vincent received a monster regular season from senior outside hitter Ashleigh Scozzari, who leads the conference in points per set (5.33) and kills per set (4.81).
Sage libero Siena Wilder got the job done this season in the back row with her passing (5.07 digs/set) and serving (0.81 aces/set), while Mickey Mango's .254 hitting percentage ranks fifth in the Skyline.
Mount Saint Mary received a conference-best 5.47 digs per set from its all-time digs leader, senior Jen Gries, while St. Joseph's-Long Island's Heather Ferchland leads the Skyline with a .364 hitting percentage.
Farmingdale State's Barbara Wright bests the conference with her 0.83 blocks per set, while Maritime's Shannon Brady leads the Privateers offense with 2.50 kills per set.
The highest remaining seed after the two semifinal matches will play host to the championship on Saturday, Nov. 7, with the conference's automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship on the line.
