St. Joseph's edges Mount Saint Mary for Skyline Women's Cross Country title; Goodwin captures individual championship

BRONX, N.Y. - St. Joseph's College placed three runners in the top six, edging Mount Saint Mary College for the 2010 Skyline Conference women's cross country title.  St. Joseph's College freshman Gillian Goodwin captured the individual title with a time of 20:49.3 on the 5,000-meter Van Cortlandt Park course.

St. Joseph's captured its seventh Skyline title in the 12-year history of the meet.  The Golden Eagles had won three straight titles from 2006 to 2008 before Bard College won last season.  This year, St. Joseph's earned 43 team points, edging out Mount Saint Mary (59), which had its best-ever team finish.  Goodwin (1), Maureen Quinn (5), Ally Waka (6), Jeanine Encizo (15), and Stephanie Aiello (16) accounted for the Golden Eagles' scoring.

The top three finishers in the race were all freshman.  Goodwin was followed by Nicole Zazzero (21.08.3) of Mount Saint Mary and Jackie Bellisari (21:31.0) of SUNY Maritime.

The top seven runners earned All-Skyline Conference first-team honors.  Rounding out the top seven were Margaux Pickell (4th; 21:36.7) of NYU-Poly, Quinn (5th; 21:39.5) and Waka (6th; 21:42.2) of St. Joseph's and Colleen Walker of Purchase (7th; 21:45.0).  The second seven runners (places 8 through 14) earned second team All-Skyline honors.  Second-team honorees included Emily Gildea (8th; 21:47.10) of Bard, Cassandra Gucciardo (9th; 21:55.9) of Mount Saint Mary, Mary Orbona (10th; 21:57.7) of Farmingdale State; Victoria Wresilo (11th; 22:02.1) of Mount Saint Mary; Erica Ball (12; 22:02.4) of Bard, Mackie Siebens (13; 22:02.6) of Bard, and Mary Dutkoski (14; 22:21.7) of Mount Saint Vincent.

The field of 88 finishers was the most in the history of the Skyline Conference women's cross country championship, eclipsing last year's mark of 76.
