United States Merchant Marine Academy sophomore Alex Smith has not allowed a run in 14 innings of work this season. Smith opened his season by pitching a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts in a complete-game victory over Florida Memorial. He then tossed a no-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead the Mariners to a 2-0 victory over rival Coast Guard. In 14 innings, he has allowed just two hits while striking out 14.
