NEW YORK – The Skyline Conference’s nine women’s lacrosse head coaches have voted on their 2017 edition of the all-conference team, and Farmingdale State College swept the four major awards.
For the second year in a row, Farmingdale State College senior midfielder Brittany Rosino (No. Babylon, N.Y.) has been selected as the Skyline’s Offensive Player of the Year. Teammates Tori Johnston (So., GK; Hauppauge, N.Y.) and midfielder Victoria Varone (Commack, N.Y.) were tabbed as Defensive Player and Rookie of the Year, respectively, while fifth-year Rams head coach Erin Calkins was named Coach of the Year by her peers.
Rosino enters this weekend’s NCAA Division III Championship with 66 points on 50 goals and 16 assists, while adding 40 ground balls and ranking No. 17 nationally in draw controls per game (6.27). She also topped the conference with 2.13 caused turnovers in the midfield – good for a No. 76 national ranking.
Johnston, last weekend’s Most Outstanding Player of the Skyline Conference Championship, has backstopped the Rams (17-1) with a 7.33 goals against average (No. 30 nationally) and ranks sixth in the country with a .576 save percentage.
Varone ranks No. 4 in the Skyline with an average of 2.89 ground balls per game, and is controlling draws at a 4.0 per-game clip. She has registered 43 goals and eight assists thus far in her freshman campaign.
Calkins has directed FSC to a 68-23 record (.747) during her four-plus years at the helm, and has guided the Rams to a pair of conference titles (2014, ’17) during her tenure. She received her bachelor’s degree in sport and leisure management from Eastern Connecticut State (’07), where she was an all-New England goalie and played basketball.
