UNION, N.J. - Freshman Ian Capp was named Most Outstanding Player after setting his team to a scorching .541 hitting percentage Saturday afternoon at Harwood Arena, as top-seeded host Kean University captured the 2017 Skyline Conference Men's Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-19) sweep over third-seeded College of Mount Saint Vincent.
Kean (26-8) receives the Skyline's automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Championship, which gets underway next weekend.
Capp registered 38 assists and three service aces, while putting down three total blocks (one solo) at the Cougars' net. Nick Buseski led KU with 14 kills and 15 points, while freshman Steven Zarzycki posted a 10-0-13 (.769) hitting line. Junior Jacob Kauffman led all players with four service aces while adding nine kills. Shayron Taylor was in on five assisted blocks while slamming seven kills on nine error-free swings.
Mount Saint Vincent (18-12) received a 10-point effort from senior Tyler Cucullu, who put down nine kills and one solo block.
