NEW YORK| The Skyline Conference's 11 women's volleyball head coaches have cast their votes for the 2017 edition of the all-conference team, and for the second consecutive season, Farmingdale State College sophomore setter/right side Julia Hande has been tabbed as Player of the Year.
Sarah Lawrence freshman middle blocker Melanie Coleman was selected as Rookie of the Year, while first-year Farmingdale State mentor Kristy Nix received Coach of the Year praise in a vote by her peers.
Hande ranks No. 5 in NCAA Division III with four triple-doubles on the season, and No. 69 with an average of 4.07 points per set. She ranked fourth and fifth in the Skyline in hitting percentage (.245) and service aces per set (0.65), respectively.
Coleman ranked fourth in the conference with a 3.06 kills per set average, and registered 11-plus points in 15 matches for the Gryphons.
Nix led the Rams to an undefeated regular season in Skyline Conference play, as well as a 13-match winning streak to close out the regular season. The 2007 graduate of Rhode Island College guided Farmingdale State to a 20-8 mark in her inaugural season at the helm.
Joining Hande on the all-conference first team are: Maia Cadle-Hinton of Farmingdale State; Shannon Brady of SUNY Maritime College; Julimar Figueroa of Mount Saint Mary College; Tara Maloney of College of Mount Saint Vincent; Claire Urizzo of St. Joseph's College-Long Island; and Dominique Pope and Kyleigh Kappas of U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
Coleman was tabbed to the all-conference second team, along with the following student-athletes: Lauren Anne Strezenec of Farmingdale State; Kim Gries of Mount Saint Mary; Nicole Henderson of Mount Saint Vincent; Nina DiCioccio of St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn; Danielle Senecal of St. Joseph's-Long Island; and Kate Lefler of USMMA.
