THROGGS NECK, NY - History repeated itself at the 2016 edition of the Skyline Conference Men's and Women's Swimming Championship (Jan. 29-30) at the Riesenberg Aquatic Center, as the SUNY Maritime College men's team (646 points) and Mount Saint Mary College women's squad (466) repeated as team champions for the ninth and fifth consecutive seasons, respectively.

Standout performances were abound on the weekend, including those by seniors Cameron Martinez of Sarah Lawrence College and Melissa Trail of Purchase College, who took home Men's and Women's Swimmer of the Year accolades, respectively.

Martinez won all four of his individual swims on the weekend, including: the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.05); 200-yard butterfly (1:59.25 - breaking his own meet record); 100-yard butterfly (51.68); and 200-yard individual medley (meet-record 1:59.21).

And if there was a perfect meet to be had on championship weekend, Trail essentially set the standard by earning meet-record times in all four of her individual swims: the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.61); 50-yard freestyle (25.02); 200-yard backstroke (2:08.49); and 200-yard individual medley (2:12.98). Furthermore, she swam the leadoff leg of the Panthers' winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:50.93), assuring head coach Peter Nestel's side of a second-place finish in the team standings (281 pts.).

Men's Rookie of the Year praise went to Maritime's Kevin Wu, after he won the 50-yard freestyle (23.37) while also swimming on the winning 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams.

Women's Rookie of the Year kudos were captured by Mount Saint Mary's Kyra McNamee, who set a meet record in the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.00), swam on the winning 200-yard medley relay team to start the weekend (1:56.26) and earned second-place finishes in the 100 Free, 200 Free and 100 Back.

Peter Vecchio, in his 15th season at the helm of the Maritime program, was named Men's Swimming Coach of the Year in a vote by his peers.

Meanwhile, first-year MSMC mentor Daniel Drury (who previously served the program as an assistant coach for two seasons) was selected as Women's Swimming Coach of the Year.

Following Maritime in the men's standings were: Mount Saint Mary (291); Sarah Lawrence (199); Purchase (173); SUNY Old Westbury (51); and College of Mount Saint Vincent (36).

Sarah Lawrence placed third in the women's standings (269), and were followed by: St. Joseph's College-Long Island (142); Maritime (132); St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn (78); Mount Saint Vincent (57); and Old Westbury (23).
