TROY, N.Y. - The Sage Colleges women’s volleyball team defeated both Bard College and St. Joseph’s College in three sets en route to its second consecutive Skyline Conference championship.
In the first semifinal match of the day, the top-seeded Gators cruised to a 25-7, 25-16, 25-9 win over fifth-seeded Bard College. Senior setter Kaitlin Olmstead led the way for Sage with 23 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore Nicole Corbett added six kills and six blocks. Senior Krista Provost contributed seven kills and six digs while Kellie Jones added seven kills and five digs.
In the second semifinal, third-seeded St. Joseph's avenged a defeat from earlier in the season when it knocked off second-seeded Polytechnic to earn a berth in the championship match.
In the championship match, Sage took control from the opening serve and was never threatened. The Gators prevailed in straight sets, winning 25-16, 25-11, 25-20. Olmstead, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, led the way with 24 assists and 11 digs. Provost added five kills and 15 digs, while Corbett tallied five kills and seven blocks. Jones contributed eight kills and eight digs.
Sage earned the Skyline Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship, its second NCAA bid in school history.
